Elizabeth Yoder, Choral Director

Tell us about yourself.
I grew up a bit in New York but mostly in Florida. My husband and I spent two years in North Carolina before moving to New York City six years ago. In each place I have lived, God has provided my husband, myself and now our daughter with church family to do life with us. We are grateful.

I love to find new music, sing, go to farmers markets, coach young musicians and attend friend’s and colleagues performances.

Tell us the story of how God brought you to work at EC.
A colleague told me about EC’s search for an honors choral director. As I researched EC’s long history and learned about the passion of its teachers, I was intrigued with the supportive and collaborative environment here. It is a rare asset which no doubt has an invaluable affect on the students of EC.

My musical training includes fifteen years of performance as a classically trained soprano in opera and oratorio, teaching voice privately and at the collegiate level, and apprenticeships and studies with four different conductors in academic and church settings. For the past four years I have run a music studio that offers private lessons in voice and piano throughout New York City. Degrees completed include the Bachelors in Music from Stetson University, Masters in Music from The Florida State University, and the Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Why Eastern Christian?
It is clear that the staff and faculty here are so passionate about their jobs because of the students they serve. It is thrilling to think about how God will use the level of talent, dedication, curiosity and focus I have heard about in our students. I am blessed and honored to partner with EC parents in mentoring these bright minds.
